Safe At Home
Written during the Corona Virus Pandemic 2020
Coming home from school she sat in the back seat of the car with a tear running down her cheek. The boy in her class made fun of her again today. Four-eyes is what he usually called her but today he called her freckle face. It hurt so bad to be called names. She couldn’t wait to get home and run to her her room and have a good cry.
Sitting on her bed holding her little dolly, she heard her daddy’s voice, “Sweetheart, are you in here?”
Tears were dripping off her little cheeks as her daddy scooped her up in his arms. He took her to the window and in the night sky there were so many stars and he said, “look how pretty that sky is, now how pretty would it be if it didn’t have freckles, I mean stars., he hugged her tight and said “Don’t you worry baby girl, daddy is here.” She wrapped her arms around his neck and as she wiped the tears from her eyes she wasn’t sad or afraid anymore, she was with her father and she was safe at home.

As she started her car she realized that the fuel was low, she knew she needed to stop for fuel, her dad had told her several times not to let it get low, but work had her so busy, she just didn’t pay attention. She pulled into the fuel station just as she remembered that her daddy also told her not to stop after dark.
She decided not to get fuel and just go home. The car behind her had followed her into the fuel station, didn’t get fuel either. She immediately felt the knots in her stomach, she felt as though she would vomit any minute. She felt the car getting closer and closer.
Deep in her heart she knew exactly who it was. Her breakup had been ugly and her ex was extremely angry at her. She knew if she had gotten out at that station he would have hurt her again. Now she prayed that her car would not run out of fuel and that she could make it home. Just a few more miles and she would be with her parents. As she pulled in the driveway, the car passed by. She hurried inside she told her dad what happened and how afraid she was. She sat on the couch beside them and felt a sigh of relief, she knew that no matter what she was with her father and she was safe at home.

The doctors have told her there is nothing else that can be done and that her life would be ending soon.
Just a young mom and wife, she seemed to have her whole life ahead and now in one moment, one conversation she was told that this moment was the end of her life. She couldn’t wrap her head around it, yet she knew if she could get back to her house with her husband and her children she would feel better.
Weeks went by and just as the doctor had said, her life slowly escaped her body. The pain, the tears, the conversations and the sweet peace that Jesus gives was what brought her to this very moment. She had done her job on this earth and had led others to Christ and encouraged many, myself included. As she reached for her husbands hand and her little boys standing by her side. She looked into their eyes and whispered, “I love you.” She looked into the eyes of her sweet husband who she loved more than anything. He told her that he loved her and that he would be ok. She closed her eyes and in her last breath, she said “Sweetheart, I love you.. and I will be waiting for you”. And in that very same moment she opened her eyes and she was walking with the Saviour. Streets of gold and gates of pearl, she loves her family and had to see them once more, She looked over the portals of glory and saw her family as they wept for her, she looked back at her Heavenly Father and asked him to give them grace and to please let them know she was finally without pain, without suffering and without hurt, and that she was with her Father and she was“Safe at home”!!
